Dive into the lively beauty of Celtic music and dance this summer!

In dance class, campers will learn the skips, steps, jumps, and beginning technique that form the foundation of Irish jigs and reels.

In music class, we will learn to sing and play Celtic tunes and rhythms on recorder and bucket drums and play skill-building movement games.

We will also do art projects, read stories, play games, and learn a few words and phrases in Gaelic, all connected to the theme of the day - Day 1: Green, Day 2: Farm, Day 3: Ocean, Day 4: Magical Creatures, Day 5: Shamrocks. Campers are encouraged but not required to dress according to each theme.

A story will be read aloud and subsequently used as the foundation for group improvisation.

Games will include cards, board games, charades, telephone, and active play such as tag, duck duck goose, red light green light, etc.

Dance instruction will be led by Suzanne Eraldi and Emily Walters of Shiloh Step Irish Dance with assistance from Rylin McCraghan and a few advanced dance students.

Music instruction will be led by Rylin McCraghan of Uncaged Musicians with assistance from Suzanne Eraldi and a few advanced music students.

There will be an informal performance at 12:30pm on the last day of each camp week; parents are welcome to attend and a video of the performance will also be available.

We encourage campers to dress in dance attire, athletic clothing, or soft fabrics that are appropriate to the weather, comfortable to move around in, and do not impede the use of arms and legs. If your child gets cold easily or tends to run warm, consider dressing in layers. We recommend labeling all clothing and other personal items with the camper's name.

Campers will work up an appetite being physically active all day! A healthy mid-morning snack will be provided. Campers will bring their own lunch each day and may choose to bring an optional additional snack. Please be sure to inform us of any food allergies or sensitivities!

All campers will also bring a water bottle every day so they can rehydrate frequently.

If your child has any medical needs or other concerns we should be aware of, please let us know in the space provided on your registration form. If you would like to have a conversation to ensure we will be able to meet your child's needs, please contact us prior to enrollment. Thanks!

Suzanne Eraldi - Although I've looked and looked in my family tree, the sad truth is that my only Irish relative seems to have been my Irish Setter Dog. Despite that huge misfortune, I was bitten hard by the Irish Dance Bug, starting when my daughter joined an Irish Dance class at age 5... which was 26 years ago! Over the years, both my daughter and I have greatly enjoyed attending classes, performing, working our way through the competitive levels at Feiseanna (Irish dance competitions) throughout the Western United States, and dancing our way through life with our many Irish dance friends.  A musician by trade, I have been a professional oboe and piano performer and teacher for over 30 years. I love teaching and look forward to sharing my love of Irish dance with our campers this summer!

Emily Walters was an active competitive Irish dancer for 19 years, receiving her training first from the McBride School of California and later in the Boston area with the Smith Houlihan Academy of Irish Dance. She has competed in Solos and Teams locally and internationally including the Irish Dance World Championships in 2014 and 2015 and holds a World Medal in the Senior Ladies Eight Hand Ceili Dance. Shiloh Step is thrilled to have Emily on board as an teacher and choreographer. Emily holds a Degree in Music (vocal performance) and has valuable experience in performance, music theater, and a variety of other dance forms, including ballet, tap, ballroom, and jazz. Emily is also an avid figure skater, who you will find teaching classes at Snoopy's Home Ice in Santa Rosa and competing at Adult Silver Level.

About Uncaged Musicians

Uncaged Musicians is a program that is constantly evolving to suit the individual students enrolled as well as in response to ongoing developments in music, pedagogy, and community building. We consider music an living, interactive creative art, and even new beginners improvise and compose in addition to learning previously existing pieces and songs from a variety of genres. Instruments taught include violin, viola, cello, piano, recorder, and guitar. We also highly value ensemble playing for a musician's optimal development and ensure that all students have the opportunity to make music as a group, with other Uncaged Musicians, with family and friends, and/or with larger community-based organizations. Explore the rest of this website for more info and follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

Rylin McCraghan has been teaching music since high school, when their cello teacher referred their first student. The child of a Montessori teacher, Rylin has always been fascinated by the learning process and how different factors within each student interact to gradually form a unique set of abilities, personality traits, strengths and weaknesses, and self-perception, and how all of the above can be static, malleable, or perceived as either. In addition to teaching music through Uncaged Musicians, Rylin also teaches school music classes in recorder, choir, bucket drumming, and composition, homeschools their own children, and is constantly pursuing new learning opportunities on their own and alongside their kids. They are currently studying Irish, Spanish, Chinese, and French on DuoLingo, HEMA at En Garde Fencing, gardening from local online communities, and typically volunteer during 2-3 productions a year with A Theater for Children. Rylin also loves puzzles, DnD, reading, writing, arts and crafts, horseback riding, yoga, dance, and their small menagerie of pets.
